World of Hyatt has a new promotion with MGM hotels in Las Vegas – earn double Hyatt points on stays from October 1 through December 29. You’ll earn at least a 15% rebate in Hyatt points on your MGM hotel spend, including charges to your room such as meals and show tickets. Registration is required prior to your stay. Sounds to me like a good reason to go to Vegas!

Details & Analysis
Hyatt and MGM have an ongoing partnership that allows you to earn points and match status between the World of Hyatt (WOH) and MLife programs. You can enjoy reciprocal benefits and status, and you can earn Hyatt points for your stays at MGM properties. We outline the benefits and how to get them in our article that’s linked above.
This new WOH-MGM promotion is very simple – you’ll earn double WOH points on “eligible spend” when you stay at any participating MGM property in Las Vegas from October 1 through December 29. “Eligible spend” is very broad at MGM properties in Vegas, and as we understand it, includes pretty much anything charged to your room as well as your room rate. We’ve earned WOH points on room charges for meals and drinks (at any MGM property, not just the one where you’re staying), show tickets, and purchases at hotel convenience stores.
You must register for the promotion prior to your stay. This is as simple as entering your World of Hyatt number at the registration link.
Also – and this is very important – you will need to provide both your WOH number and your MLife number to the front desk when you check in. Be sure this is done and recorded in your room reservation, as it is expressly required by the terms of the promotion.
Participating MGM PropertiesParticipating MGM Resorts in Las Vegas are:
- MGM Grand
- The Signature at MGM Grand
- Mandalay Bay
- Delano Las Vegas
- The Mirage
- Park MGM Las Vegas (the former Monte Carlo)
- New York-New York
You can find a map of MGM’s Las Vegas properties here.
Value of the Promotion
Normal spend at MGM properties earns 5 WOH points per dollar of spend, so with this promotion you’ll earn 10 WOH points per dollar of spend (plus any WOH elite bonus). At our baseline value of 1.5 cents per WOH point, that’s a rebate of 15% in points on your spend.
Plus, if you have elite status with Hyatt, you’ll earn bonus points, which would bring your points-earning/rebate up to:
- Discoverist – 10% bonus – 10.5 points/dollar of spend (15.75% rebate)
- Explorist – 20% bonus – 11 points/dollar of spend (16.5% rebate)
- Globalist – 30% bonus – 11.5 points/dollar of spend (17.25% rebate)
And all of this earning is in addition to the points you’ll get if you pay for your stay with a rewards-earning credit card. For instance, you can earn 4x WOH points per dollar of spend with the Chase World of Hyatt card, or you can earn 3x Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar with your Chase Sapphire Reserve (referral link). This would up your total return to 21% with the Chase WOH card or 19.5% with the CSR, even if you don’t have elite status. That’s a great return on your hotel spend.
For stays from now through November 30, this promotion should also stack with World of Hyatt’s Fall 2018 Bonus Promotion, where you can earn WOH bonus points if you stay 5, 10, 20, 30 or 40 nights during the promotion period.
You may also want to be on the lookout for any new Amex Offer for MGM properties in Las Vegas. These seem to come out fairly regularly, although we’re not aware of a current active Offer. These would require paying with an Amex card rather than a Chase card, but you’d probably come out ahead using an Amex Offer.
And finally, another way to stack this promotion would be to combine it with the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) program, if you hold an Amex Platinum card so that you’re eligible for FHR. The Bellagio and the Delano both participate in FHR. FHR rates at these properties include a $100 food and beverage credit to be used during your stay, free breakfast, a room upgrade if available, and 4:00 pm late check-out. Add these benefits to your increased points-earning, and you’ve got a very sweet deal indeed!
