Earn Extra Miles for Your Early Holiday Shopping – Portal Bonuses from Alaska, American, Southwest & United

Several of the major airline shopping portals are running bonus promotions for your early holiday shopping. We’re seeing bonus offers from Alaska, American, Southwest and United (but not Delta; not sure why).

Each bonus offer period runs from now through November 18.  Each offer has 3 tiers, although the tiers and offers differ for each airline.  The spend level for each program is cumulative – that is, you can have multiple purchases within a portal to add up to a bonus threshold level.  But, of course, only spend through a particular program’s portal counts toward the bonus for that portal.  You can only receive one bonus per airline; however, you can receive up to one bonus from each airline.  No registration is required for any of these bonus offers.  Bonus miles should post a few weeks after the promotion ends.

To learn more about using shopping portals to collect miles for your travel, see our guide, How to Use a Shopping Portal to Earn Miles or Cash Back.  And, as always, be sure to check the Cashback Monitor website to compare the rates on different portals so you can maximize your return!

As far as which bonus to use goes, we think the most important factor is your own personal miles preference – which miles will do you the most good? Beyond that, all of the offers are similar in that they give you a bonus of 2 miles to 3.33 miles per dollar if you hit the spend thresholds exactly.

Here are the bonuses and spend threshold levels for each airline portal:

Alaska

  • $150 spend = 300 bonus miles
  • $300 spend = 750 bonus miles
  • $500 spend = 1,500 bonus miles

American

  • $150 spend = 500 bonus miles
  • $600 spend = 2,000 bonus miles
  • $1,200 spend = 4,000 bonus miles

Southwest

  • $150 spend = 500 bonus points
  • $500 spend = 1,000 bonus points
  • $1,000 spend = 3,000 bonus points

United

  • $150 spend = 500 bonus miles
  • $750 spend = 2,500 bonus miles
  • $1,500 spend = 5,000 bonus miles
