Venmo 3x Earning on CIP Card Is Now Dead

Chase Ink Preferred Business Visa card

On November 2, 2018, we wrote an article on our data point that Venmo transactions using the Chase Ink Preferred (CIP) card earned 3x Ultimate Rewards (UR) points. This has been a fairly popular post on Middle Age Miles, so we wanted to be sure to post a short follow-up article with this very unfortunate news.

Doctor of Credit is reporting that, as of 2/26/2019, Venmo transactions using CIP no longer earn 3x UR points. Instead, they earn only 1x points as “other purchases.”

We also personally confirmed that our own 2/26/19 Venmo transactions have earned only 1x UR points.

Doctor of Credit also reports that 3x earning with CIP is dead on GiftCardMall and Simon Mall online (simon.giftcardmall.com).

We never hit this very hard, but a lot of people did. Rest in peace, great UR-earning method.

Hi Matt – Thanks for reading Middle Age Miles, and thanks for the feedback. We recognize that it’s always a delicate call on what to publish and what not to publish. That one was already publicly published in multiple places, so we went with it. I hope you killed it while you could; it’s always going to be a changing landscape out there. ~Craig
