More Details on the Deal

Marriott has run this promotion or something similar for a while, but we wanted to re-highlight it here. If you’re an experienced points-and-miles person, you’re surely already a Marriott Bonvoy member – but this is a great offer to share with your friends who are less points-and-miles savvy. It’s straightforward and easy to achieve, and it provides positive reinforcement quickly given that you’re rewarded after just 2 stays.

Key additional details are:

  • The Free Night Award is good for up to 25,000 points. Currently, this means that you can stay at any Marriott-family hotel that is in Category 4 or lower.
    • This will change a bit later this year when Marriott Bonvoy introduces Peak/Standard/Off-Peak pricing. At that time, Category 4 hotels will no longer be available during times of “Peak” pricing
      • For this reason, now is a very good time to take advantage of the promotion – a new member enrolling and earning the Free Night Award now can still get a Category 4 hotel during high-demand times that will later become “Peak” dates
    • For a Directory of Marriott-family hotels, go to this page:
      • Marriott Bonvoy: Hotel Directory
      • To find hotels that are eligible for the Free Night Award, click the “Filter” button and then filter by Marriott Bonvoy Category. You can select all Category 1, 2, 3 and 4 hotels, or you can select only Category 4 hotels
  • You will receive the Free Night Award in the form of an electronic certificate that will be automatically deposited into your Marriott Bonvoy member account after you complete 2 qualifying paid stays
  • Note that a “stay” is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity
    • This means that you can’t game the system by breaking up a single multi-night stay into 2 “stays” by checking out and back in
  • Note that you may use the certificate plus additional points to upgrade your room type, subject to availability
    • This means that you can stay at a 25,000-point hotel and use additional points to get a better room, if that option is made available by Marriott
    • This does not mean you can stay at a hotel that requires 35,000 points for a standard room by using the 25,000-point certificate plus 10,000 points – that won’t work
  • Other details are in the full terms and conditions, which are listed and linked above

Where Can I Stay With a 25,000-Point Free Night?

Let’s start by saying that you won’t be staying at a Ritz Carlton or St. Regis hotel with a 25,000-point Free Night Award. But we think you’ll be surprised at what a 25,000-point Free Night Award might get you.

Looking at the Marriott Directory, 5,553 Marriott-family hotels are in Category 4 or below. That’s a little more than 75% of all Marriott hotels. The list includes some truly nice and near-aspirational properties, like the Sheraton Dubrovnik Riviera, where Middle Age Miles stayed last summer and loved, and The Algonquin Resort in St. Andrews by-the-Sea, New Brunswick, which has been on our want-to-go list for a while.

Locally for our friends here in the Dallas area, you might like to know that the new Renaissance Dallas in the hot Plano Legacy West area is a Category 4 hotel where you can currently stay for 25,000 points a night. Paid room rates there regularly run $200, $300 and even up to $400 per night. With all of the nice restaurants in the Legacy West area, the Renaissance would make for a good local stay-cation or date night destination.

Other potentially great 25,000-point free night redemptions include hotels in college towns, for football weekends or other big events like graduations.

Conclusion

If you’re not a Marriott Bonvoy member, now’s a great time to enroll with this generous new-member promotion and quickly earn a free night that you can use for a good hotel stay. And if you’re not a new member, now’s a good time to tell your friends and family about joining.
