Introduction

Some nice Amex Offers for hotels have been released within the past few days, and it’s been a while since we’ve done a recap of active Offers. So, we figured it would be a good time to catch Middle Age Miles readers up on the active Amex Offers for hotels as of February 2020.

We love to use Amex Offers to save money on our travels. Even beyond the savings in the Offers themselves, we can almost always stack Amex Offers with discounted rates (and sometimes with benefits from Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts bookings) to get even more value for our travel dollar. In addition, we’ve sometimes even purchased hotel gift cards that triggered Amex Offers, to preserve the savings for later stays.

If you’d like a refresher on Amex Offers and how to use them, see our Resource article, Amex Offers Explained.

In this article, we’ll give you at least the basics on current Amex Offers from:

  • Hilton-family hotels
    • Waldorf Astoria & Conrad
    • DoubleTree & Tapestry
    • Tru by Hilton
    • Hilton-family hotels in Mexico
    • Hilton-family hotels in Puerto Rico
  • Marriott Bonvoy
  • MGM Resorts
  • Omni Hotels & Resorts
  • Leading Hotels of the World (LHW)
  • Some smaller chains or individual hotels
  • Two online hotel booking websites
    • HotelStorm.com
    • TripFuel, a Priceline company

1 – Hilton-family hotels

There are several good Amex Offers for Hilton-family hotels, many of which recently appeared late last week. We’re seeing:

A – Waldorf Astoria & Conrad – $60 statement credit when you spend at least $350 (expires 5/31/2020). Note that the Offer is only good for properties in the US and US Territories.

B – DoubleTree & Tapestry – $40 statement credit or 4,000 Amex Membership Rewards (MR) points when you spend at least $250 (expires 6/30/2020). Again, the Offer is only valid at properties in the US and US Territories.

C – Tru by Hilton – $30 statement credit or 3,000 MR points when you spend at least $150 (expires 3/31/2020). Once again, only valid at properties in the US and US Territories.

D – Hilton-family hotels in Mexico – $75 statement credit when you spend at least $500 (expires 3/31/2020). We haven’t seen a MR-earning version of this Offer.

E – Hilton-family hotels in Puerto Rico – $60 statement credit or 6,000 MR points when you spend at least $350 (expires 3/31/2020).

We found one interesting stacking opportunity with these Amex Offers. The DoubleTree by Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico, should qualify for both the DoubleTree/Tapestry and Hilton Puerto Rico Offers. And, if history is a reliable guide, the Offers should stack. Thus, if you’ve enrolled the same Amex card in both of these Offers and spend at least $350 at the DoubleTree San Juan, you should be able to double-dip to get $100 of statement credit or 10,000 MR points! (Unfortunately, the Waldorf Astoria-affiliated El Conquistador resort in Puerto Rico remains closed for repairs through at least August 2020, so it won’t be open in time for a double-dip.)

2 – Marriott Bonvoy

We’ve seen 2 different versions of Amex Offers for Marriott Bonvoy hotels recently – one for a $50 statement credit when you spend at least $250, and another for a $45 statement credit when you spend at least $300. Both Offers expire on 4/15/2020. We haven’t seen corresponding Offers to earn MR points on either of these. Obviously, the $250/$50 Offer is better than the $300/$45 Offer – more credit for less spend!

As with the Hilton-family Offers, the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Offers are valid only at properties in the US and US Territories.

3 – MGM Resorts

The MGM Resorts Offers are for $80 statement credit or 8,000 MR points when you spend at least $400 (expires 5/4/2020). Unlike some other MGM Offers we’ve seen recently, this one is not split between different properties. The Offer is widely applicable to MGM properties in Las Vegas and to some other US-based MGM properties. The specific list of applicable properties is:

  • Bellagio
  • Aria
  • Vdara
  • MGM Grand
  • The Signature at MGM Grand
  • Mandalay Bay
  • Delano Las Vegas
  • Park MGM
  • NoMad Las Vegas
  • The Mirage
  • New York-New York
  • Luxor
  • Excalibur
  • Beau Rivage
  • Gold Strike
  • Borgata
  • MGM National Harbor
  • MGM Springfield

Even though the terms require direct booking through MGM channels, we’ve found that previous MGM Offers have applied when we booked through Amex FHR or Chase LHRC/Signature Travel Network, as those programs result in you being charged directly by the hotel.

4 – Omni Hotels & Resorts

The Omni Hotels & Resorts Amex Offer is available for another few weeks, through 3/2/2020. With this Offer, you’ll receive a $50 statement credit when you spend at least $250. The Offer is valid at Omni properties in the US, Canada & Mexico.

5 – Leading Hotels of the World (LHW)

For a couple more weeks, you can receive a $60 statement credit when you spend at least $300 at a Leading Hotels of the World property (expires 2/21/2020). The offer is only valid at LHW properties in the US. The Offer excludes Bellagio Towers and The Wagner at the Battery. Terms of the offer require a booking through LHW channels, but we would think that there’d be a decent chance of the Offer working if you booked directly with a LHW hotel (please let us know if you have any data points on this question).

6 – Some Smaller Chains or Individual Hotels

A – StayPineapple boutique hotels – $50 statement credit when you spend at least $250 (expires 2/15/2020). Note that this one is only valid for about the next 10 days!

B – Rosen Shingle Creek, Orlando – $100 statement credit when you spend at least $500 (expires 4/30/2020).

C – Caribe Royale Orlando – $100 statement credit when you spend at least $500 (expires 7/6/2020).

7 – Online Hotel Booking Websites

For each of these online hotel booking websites, please use caution when booking. One, be sure to check prices versus booking directly or through other means – we’ve often seen times when these websites were charging prices much higher than you could get elsewhere, with the price being even being higher after considering the Amex Offer. Two, understand that most if not all bookings through these websites are pre-paid and non-refundable. And three, understand that you won’t be earning any points or elite night credits with stays booked through these websites, and you probably won’t receive any elite benefits, either. With those cautions in mind, here are two Amex Offers for online hotel booking websites:

A – HotelStorm.com – $75 statement credit when you spend at least $300 (Offer can be used up to 3 times) (expires 6/30/2020)

B – TripFuel.com, a Priceline company – $50 statement credit when you spend at least $200 (Offer can be used up to 3 times) (expires 2/8/2020) – note that you only have 3 days left to use this Offer!

We hope that you’ve found our round-up of active Amex Offers for hotels to be helpful!
