One of our topics on the Saverocity Observation Deck podcast

Recently, I had the good fortune of being invited by Joe of asthejoeflies to be a guest on the Saverocity Observation Deck podcast. Joe and I recorded a few days ago, and Saverocity has now released the public version of the podcast on the Saverocity Observation Deck website.

Note that the last few minutes of the podcast (the “Final Boarding Call” section) are in a version that’s a few minutes longer and behind a paywall. If you’re interested in subscribing to the full versions of Saverocity Observation Deck, there are instructions on their website.

Loved hearing more about your trip on the Observation Deck podcast. Hope they have you back soon for more of your take on our hobby. It’s a great perspective.
We’re looking at tying Jordan into a trip to Greece next year.

Hey Dukie02 – Many thanks for the kind words. Jordan was great; visiting Petra is bucket-list-great and not to be missed. Short flight to get over to Amman from Greece. I know you heard this on the podcast, but I can’t say enough good things about Petra Nights Tours. Using them in Jordan was against our usual travel pattern, but very much worth it. If you didn’t read them already, check out the 2 articles we’ve published so far about Cyprus & Jordan for some tips:

And thanks for the good wishes on my AA situation! ~Craig

Craig, I enjoyed the podcast and am looking forward to your forthcoming accidental MS series. It’s hard to keep up on the ever shifting landscape of this hobby, and your blog has become one of only a handful of my go to sources for trusted and reliable information. Keep up the great work! Finally, as a Wisconsin Badger fan, I’m looking forward to the Notre Dame game at Lambeau Field this fall. Should be a good one.

Hi FIPhile – Many thanks for the comment. I truly appreciate the kind words, and I’m really glad you’re enjoying Middle Age Miles. I think I’ll start the “Accidental MS” articles next week. I’ve had it outlined for a while, but the recent AA stuff has been a zoo.

Wisconsin vs ND at Lambeau should be great. I think Middle Age Miles son and ND alum Dylan is planning to go up for it. We’re not planning to go, although we’ve been known to change course last-minute. We are going to Ireland for ND vs Navy in Dublin, then we’re headed to South Bend again in September for what we’re affectionately calling “Pigmageddon” at our place – the marriage-testing game between my beloved Arkansas Razorbacks and Philly’s equally beloved Fighting Irish. Hopefully we’ll survive. It’s probably a good thing that expectations are low for the Hogs! ~Craig

Enjoy Dublin! We took our kids there (using miles and points of course) for their first trip to Europe in the fall of 2018 and we had a blast. Also, on behalf of Badger nation, many thanks to Arkansas for taking Brett Bielema off our hands. It didn’t seem like a good thing at the time for UW, but I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Thanks! We’ve been to Ireland a couple of times previously (our most recent trip in 2016 is extensively chronicled on Middle Age Miles under the Trip & Event Reports menu item if you’re interested in reading about it) and we’re very much looking forward to going back. We’ll have a son & daughter-in-law with us who are Ireland first-timers, so we’ll hit some of the major sites again this time.

Love the Bielema comment. I actually thought he did a solid job early in his tenure at Ark, taking the program from dumpster-fire level after the ignominious Petrino exit followed by a rudder-less year in 2012, to a competitive place in 2014 & 2015 that included 2 wins over LSU and 2 competitive games against Alabama. That said, his last year was really rough, there was certainly room for improvement scheme-wise, and I think it’s pretty telling that his post-Arkansas work has been at the NFL scout/position coach level. And I’d say the Badgers are doing quite fine these days.

          Have a great weekend! ~Craig

Hi Craig, just listened to the podcast too. Great to hear your voice and I couldn’t stop listening until the episode ended. Looking forward to your future MS posts and any other MAM posts along the way 🙂
