This article is part of our “About Middle Age Miles” series.
Hi, this is Craig Tadlock. Thank you for visiting Middle Age Miles. My wife, Phyllis Romero, and I are the travelers behind Middle Age Miles, and we’d like to introduce ourselves to you.
As we start this travel blog and website adventure, we are in our early 50’s, living in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas. Both of us grew up modestly – Craig in a small town in the forests and hills of western Arkansas, and Philly in the Sangre de Cristo foothills of Santa Fe, New Mexico. I was born and raised an Arkansas Razorback (although I attended college at a smaller school in Arkansas, Hendrix College). Philly attended Notre Dame and is a diehard Fighting Irish fan. I suspect that it won’t be tough to identify our rooting interests through our posts on Middle Age Miles!
Before I started Middle Age Miles, I had been a civil trial lawyer for almost 25 years. I started my legal career with one of Texas’ largest firms, later worked as an in-house lawyer for a multinational company headquartered in Paris, then worked for a couple of smaller law firms, and finally I founded my own firm, Tadlock Law Firm PLLC, in 2009. I was very proud to work hard and grow my firm to the point where we filed more patent infringement lawsuits than any other law firm in the United States in 2014, and we were second in 2015. It was good, challenging work, but very demanding, and it involved constant conflict (fighting over money, as I say) that was draining on the body and soul over time.
Along the way, I was fortunate to meet Philly several years ago, and even more fortunate to persuade her to marry me – second marriage for each of us. She has had a successful corporate career, and she continues to hold a corporate position for one of America’s largest and most visionary companies. We have 5 children between us, who are spread out across every time zone in the USA – one in the Washington DC area, one in Arkansas, two in Denver, and one in Seattle. You will also see that our kids and their locations and adventures motivate some of our travel.
One of the ways Philly and I bonded was our common love of travel. Having worked hard and raised kids, neither of us had traveled as much as we would have liked in the past. But with our kids mostly grown and a partner with common interests, travel styles and passions, we began traveling more and more. We loved it.
Our other passions are running, hiking, college football (Woo Pig! / Go Irish!), and other sports. We love to experience big events, and we have an unnatural love for reality TV shows. I have no doubt that you’ll see all of these passions shine through on Middle Age Miles.
